Before your first Laser Hair Removal session, a Consultation and Patch Test is required at least 48 hours in advance. This essential step ensures we can tailor the treatment to your skin and hair type safely and effectively.
In your Consultation and Patch Test, we will assess your medical history and suitability for Laser Hair Removal, explain the process in detail, and provide guidance on how to prepare for treatment, along with essential aftercare tips. This is also a great time to ask any questions you may have, so you feel fully informed and confident before beginning your treatment journey with us.
Please arrive for your Consultation and Patch Test without shaving the area to be treated. This allows us to accurately assess your hair type. If any hair needs to be removed for the patch test, we’ll take care of it in clinic. For future appointments, please arrive with the treatment area freshly shaved. Additionally, always avoid any hair removal methods that remove hair from the follicle, such as waxing, tweezing, epilating, using hair removal creams, or bleaching, as these methods will make the treatment ineffective.
The Consultation and Patch Test takes approximately 30 minutes. We cannot perform treatment until this has been carried out.

Avoid sunbeds and sunbathing for at least 4 weeks before treatment.
Shaving:
Please shave the area/s to be treated the night before or morning of your appointment. Do invest in a good quality razor and shaving gel if you have sensitive skin. You may also shave in between each appointment, if you wish to.

Other Preparations:

If possible, schedule your treatment when you are not due on your menstrual cycle, as sensitivity to pain may increase during this time. If this is not possible, don’t worry—it will just be a little more uncomfortable.
Inform your practitioner of any changes to your medical history or any upcoming or recent aesthetic, medical, or beauty treatments on the area to be treated.

Aloe Vera Gel: Use 99.9% Pure Aloe Vera Gel immediately after treatment and for a few days afterward if necessary. Only use the product purchased from the clinic, as other products may contain ingredients that irritate the skin.
Cold Compress: Apply a sterile, cold compress if the area feels hot or uncomfortable. Ensure it is cleaned before and after each use. Avoid direct contact with skin and do not use a hot compress.
Sun Protection: Protect the treated area from sun/UV exposure for at least 6 weeks post-treatment. The skin should remain fully covered during healing, and afterward, apply a SPF 30+ sunscreen whenever exposed to sunlight.
Sunbeds and Sunbathing: You must avoid sunbeds and sunbathing for at least 4-6 weeks following your treatment depending on the laser technology used.
Medications: Do not take anti-inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen or Aspirin for 7 days post-treatment. Paracetamol and antihistamines may be taken within recommended guidelines if needed.
Heat Exposure: For 48 hours post-treatment, avoid hot showers, hot baths, steam rooms, saunas, and strenuous exercise. These can aggravate the treated area and delay healing.
Swimming: Avoid swimming until the skin is fully healed to prevent irritation and infection.
Avoid Water Exposure: Keep the treated area dry for the first 24-48 hours.
Perfumed Products: Avoid using perfumed lotions, shower gels, or creams on the treated area until it has fully healed. Only use Aloe Vera Gel recommended by the clinic.
Infection Prevention: To prevent contamination:
Avoid touching the treated area.
Do not let the treated area come into contact with unsterile surfaces.
Be cautious around pets and children to prevent them from touching the area.
Ensure bedding, towels, and pillowcases are clean.
No Picking or Scratching:
Do not touch, pick, or scratch the treated area, including any scabbing or blistering.
Hydration and Rest: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and ensure you get ample rest after your treatment to aid recovery. Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
Alcohol and Smoking: Alcohol and smoking can delay the healing process, so it is advised to avoid during your healing period.
Your skin must be fully healed before your next treatment. A minimum of 4 weeks is required between sessions, although up to 12 weeks may be recommended.
Always follow both pre-treatment and post-treatment advice before each session to ensure the best results and avoid complications. If the skin is still pink, tender, or showing any other signs of healing, it is important to reschedule your appointment and allow more time for recovery.
Inform your practitioner of any changes in your medical history before each treatment.
FAQs
-
It is necessary to undergo multiple treatments for desired results to be achieved. The number of sessions required varies for each individual, this is based on many different factors. On average 8-10 sessions are needed, however some clients require less and others require further treatment.
-
Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated light energy into the hair follicle. The pigment (melanin) in the hair absorbs this energy, converting it into heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair.
At India Gabrielle Clinic, we use advanced Laser and Super IPL technology, allowing us to choose the most suitable treatment for your skin type, hair type and individual needs.
Hair grows in different cycles, and laser treatment is only effective on hairs that are in the active growth phase. As not all hairs are growing at the same time, a course of treatments is needed to achieve the best results. We typically recommend a minimum of 6 sessions, although this may vary depending on the treatment area and your individual hair growth.
-
Your hair grows in different cycles - hair follicles go through resting and growth phases. For permanent hair reduction to be successfully achieved, the hair has to be treated during its growth stage. Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair and are destroyed by the heat. Resting hair follicles need to enter the growth phase before they can be effectively destroyed. The length and timing of the growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body area, hair density, thickness, ethnic origin, hormonal status and age.
-
Treatments must be spaced a minimum of at least 4 weeks apart.

Most clients find Laser Hair Removal very comfortable. While everyone's pain tolerance is different, the sensation is often described as a warm feeling or a light flick against the skin rather than pain.
At India Gabrielle Clinic, we use advanced medical-grade AW3 Laser and Super IPL technology with built-in cooling systems to help maximise comfort throughout your treatment. By offering multiple laser technologies, we can also select the most suitable option for your skin type and hair type, helping to make treatments as effective and comfortable as possible.
Our AW3 Super Hair Removal system also features Crystal Freeze® cooling technology, which continuously cools the skin during treatment to further enhance comfort.
Most clients require no anaesthetic cream and can return to their normal daily activities straight after treatment.

It depends on the size of the area and how many areas you have treated. Our system has the largest applicator spot size on the market - this means we can treat a larger area in a shorter period of time. We can treat full legs in 10-15 minutes, instead of 90 minutes. Your practitioner will advise you during your consultation as to how long each appointment is likely to take.
-
Unfortunately not. Laser hair removal cannot be performed directly over tattooed skin, as the laser is attracted to the pigment in the tattoo. Treating over a tattoo could damage the skin and affect the tattoo itself.
We can safely treat the surrounding areas, but the tattooed skin will need to be avoided during your treatment.
-
No - all traces of tanning products must be removed from the treatment area before your laser session. This includes all fake tanning agents, gradual tanning moisturisers, oils and lotions. This is because fake tan acts as pigmentation on the skin - which could cause complications with your treatment.
Fake tan can be worn in between sessions but on the day of your treatment, your skin needs to be clear.
You can use self tan on other body areas - you just need to avoid your desired treatment area.
-
No - we ideally need to see where the hair growth is at your consultation. If we need to remove any for the patch test - we will do this in the clinic for you.
